Gyro Bao Buns?! Yes, you read that right!
Ingredients
  • subheading: Gyro meat:
  • 5 to 6 cloves of garlic
  • 1 medium onion, quartered
  • 1 pound ground lamb
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  •  
  • subheading: Sandwich Bread:
  • 8 to 10 bao buns
  •  
  • subheading: Topping:
  • 1 tablespoon of halal-cart white sauce*
  • Chopped tomatoes
  • Chopped cucumbers
  • Thinly sliced red onions
  • Cilantro
  • Chives
Steps
  1. subheading: FOR THE GYRO MEAT:
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. Place the garlic cloves in a food processor and pulse until very finely chopped.
  4. Add onion and puree until smooth.
  5. Add both ground meats with all of the spices. Pulse until the mixture becomes like a paste. Scrape down the sides of the bowl in between pulses.
  6. Place the mixture in a loaf pan. Compact it as much as possible. Bake for 1 hour.
  7. Allow the meat to rest before slicing to keep the juices inside! After resting, place the meat on a plate or cutting board and carve thin slices off to use in your sandwich.
  8. subheading: STEAM BAO BUNS:
  9. Preheat the oven to 475 F. Fill a half or full sheet pan with water and place a wire rack over it.
  10. Place the buns on the rack and cover them loosely with aluminum foil. Place the pan on the bottom rack of the oven and cook for 10 minutes.
  11. subheading: PREPARE TOPPINGS:
  12. Prepare your toppings by cutting them into bite sized pieces. Assemble your bao buns with thin slices of gyro meat, toppings and halal-cart white sauce.
