Ingredients
  • 1 pound dry ziti pasta
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 pound lean ground beef or ground turkey
  • 2 (26 ounce) jars spaghetti sauce
  • 6 ounces provolone cheese, sliced
  • 1 ½ cups sour cream or ricotta Mix, I like both
  • 6 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
Steps
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
  2. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil.
  3. Add ziti pasta, and cook until al dente, about 8 minutes; drain.
  4. In a large skillet, brown onion and ground beef over medium heat.
  5. Add spaghetti sauce, and simmer 15 minutes.
  6. Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  7. subheading: Layer as follows:
  8. ½ of the ziti
  9. Provolone cheese
  10. sour cream
  11. ½ sauce mixture
  12. remaining ziti
  13. mozzarella cheese
  14. remaining sauce mixture
  15. Top with grated Parmesan cheese.
  16. Bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until cheeses are melted.
Notes
  • Ricotta Mixture:
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese, (whole milk or part skim)
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Chopped fresh basil
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • ½ teaspoon table salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
