This recipe came from a box of Chex cereal sometime in the '50s. It uses oil instead of butter. We've adapted it somewhat over the years, but our additions and substitutions are in the notes.

Servings: Makes 8 quarts

Servings: Makes 8 quarts
Ingredients
  • 2 lbs. mixed nuts*
  • 12 oz. package Wheat Chex*
  • 10 oz. package Cheerios
  • 6½ oz. package Rice Chex*
  • 6½ oz. package pretzels*
  • 5½ oz. package pretzel sticks
  • 2 cups salad oil
  • 2 tbl. worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbl. garlic salt
  • 1 tsp. seasoning salt
Steps
  1. Mix all ingredients in a large roaster and bake in 250° oven for 2 hours. Stir every 15 minutes.
Notes
  • *We buy the nuts separately because mixed nuts often don't contain brazil nuts, our favorite. We also substitute Crispix for both the Chex cereals and use small pretzels. The seasoning salt we use is Lawry.
