Ingredients

- ¾ cup hot water (about 100°F (38°C))
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ⅓ cup packed brown sugar
- 1 large egg, at room temperature
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- subheading: Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 8 oz full-fat brick style cream cheese, softened to room temperature
- 2 Tbsp unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 1¾ cups confectioners’ sugar
- 1 Tbsp cream or milk
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- optional: ½ tsp maple extract or 2 Tbsp pure maple syrup
- optional: cranberries for garnish
