Peppermint Candy Spoons
Ingredients
  • subheading: Here is what you need:
  • • Starlight Peppermint Candy
  • • Silicon Spoon Mold
  • • Melting chocolate
  • • Crushed peppermint flakes (found at Central Market 2016)
  • • Sprinkles
Steps
  1. • Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
  2. • In a Ziploc bag, crush the peppermints (I used a kitchen mallet).
  3. • Use a teaspoon to fill the spoon mold with the crushed peppermint - be sure to put extra by the top of the spoon part and at the neck of the spoon (where the spoon and handle meet). These are areas that break easy. NOTE: Don’t overfill the mold because that causes the finished spoon to have ugly edges at the end.
  4. • Place in oven and let melt completely. Mine took about 10 minutes, but every oven is different and you just have to watch it. Once it was pretty melts (about 8 minutes in or so) I took mine out and added some additional crushed peppermint wherever it looked thin. (the peppermint melts down a bunch, so you may have to fill it in) - then I let it cook for a few minutes longer.
  5. • Take out of oven and let cool completely.
  6. Separate the sides from the candy carefully and remove. If one breaks, just add some more crushed peppermint and cook for a few minutes more. CAN USE A CLEAN METAL NAIL FILE TO LIGHTLY GRIND AWAY ROUGHEST EDGES - CAREFUL!
  7. Melting Chocolate
  8. Put discs in glass measuring cup and microwave in short bursts, stirring after each burst - 30 seconds first, then 15 seconds each time afterward. I used a small plastic spatula-looking paddle and scraped the sides each time, allowing the glass to cool slightly before another burst. When chocolate reaches desired consistency, keep stirring until glass bowl is cool to the touch.
  9. Dip tip of each spoon in warm chocolate, then into the crushed peppermint flakes or sprinkles. Rest spoons on paper plate or parchment paper until chocolate has hardened.
