My Own Dog Biscuit Recipe
Servings: Makes Around 30
Servings: Makes Around 30
Ingredients
- 1 cup steamed & mashed butternut/pumpkin
- 2½ cups plain flour or a little more (I prefer using wholemeal)
- ¾ teaspoon baking powder
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- ¾ cup peanut butter
- ¼ cup hot water (or less, you might not need any if the mixture is wet enough)
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 Handfuls of grated cheese
- Quite a small amount of rosemary (only just a hint of flavour as it's quite strong)
- Extra cheese for sprinkling on top
Steps
- Preheat to 180°C and line 2 oven trays with baking paper.
- Steam the peeled butternut/pumpkin until very soft.
- Combine the flour and baking powder in a large bowl.
- Add the mashed butternut, peanut butter, water (if needed), honey, grated cheese, beaten egg and rosemary and mix until it forms a stiff dough.
- Turn out onto a floured surface and roll out to approximately 1cm (½") thick.
- Cut out using a bone-shaped cookie cutter.
- Sprinkle some grated cheese on top and bake for approximately 20 minutes or until golden.
- Cool on oven trays.
Notes
- The ingredient amounts are as a guide only. Depending on how much pumpkin/butternut you've cooked, you may need to adjust the amount of flour, in particular, to ensure the dough isn't too sticky. Also, you may then need to increase the other ingredients as well so they don't end up as basically flour biscuits without much flavour of anything else!
