  • ¾ teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
  • pinch cayenne pepper, plus more to taste
  • 4 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 4 cups low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 14.5 ounce can no-salt-added diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups lightly packed kale (ribs removed coarsely chopped)
  • 1 cup low-sodium canned chick peas
