Steps
- Rinse, dry and cut the chives with a pair of herb scissors (5 blades).
- Butter one side of each slice of bread.
- On one slice of bread opposite the buttered side; place 2 slices each of smoked Gouda and aged white cheddar cheese and ripple 5 slices of ham to add volume.
- On the other slice of bread opposite the buttered side; spread a good amount of the fig preserves and sprinkle some chopped chives.
- Put both slices together to form your sandwich.
- In a medium sized skillet on medium high heat, grill the sandwich for a few minutes each side until golden brown and the cheese is as melty as desired. About 2 to 3 minutes each side.
- Once grilled to desired doneness, slice in half and serve immediately. These may need to be held in a warm oven with a tented piece of aluminum foil.
Notes
- Make sure skillet is up to temp before adding sandwich.
- Can also be toasted in oven or air-fryer.
- Ripple ham to add volume to meat and make it more presentable.
