  • Lemon Juice: Great for balancing out the sweetness. Be sure and use real lemon juice, not that crap in the green bottle.

  • Maple Syrup: Keeps this dish naturally sweetened and beautifully caramelizes the apples.

  • Spices: Cinnamon and nutmeg are the flavors of Fall and Winter. But, pumpkin pie spice is excellent as well.

  • Arrowroot Flour: This is to make sure it thickens as it cooks. You can also use cornstarch.
