  • 1 cup white whole-wheat flour (or half all-purpose and half whole-wheat flour)
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon allspice (or ground cloves)
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (softened at room temperature)
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • sprinkles, raisins, chocolate chips, icing (optional)
