Nasi Goreng - Indonesian Fried Rice

Ingredients
  • 4 cups cooked rice
  • 6 Tbsp. oil
  • 2 large onions
  • ½ tsp black or white pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp tumeric
  • 2 tsp laos (Java galingale root/glanga powder)
  • ½ tsp sereh powder or 1 Tbsp. fresh lemongrass
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • Dried chili pepper flakes
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 4 eggs
Steps
  1. Heat oil in large skillet.  Saute onions until golden brown.
  2. Add pepper, paprika, garlic powder, coriander, cumin, tumeric, galanga powder, salt, and dried chili pepper flakes.
  3. While preparing onion mixture, brown ground beef.
  4. Add cooked rice and sauteed meat to onion/spice mixture.  Saute over low heat, stirring occasionally to blend flavors, about 10 minutes.
  5. Beat eggs with fork in a small bowl.  Using skillet in which meat was fried, fry eggs in several thin layers.  Cut each into strips and serve on top of rice/meat mixture.
