  • ¾ cup finely chopped yellow onion (from 1 small onion)
  • 1 pound pencil-thin fresh asparagus, trimmed and cut crosswise into 1- to 1 ½-inch pieces (about 2 ½ cups)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
