Ingredients
  • ½ cup toor dal or split pigeon peas
  • 1¼ to 1 ½ cups water for dal

  • 1 large or 2 small tomatoes
  • 1 ginger small piece (optional)
  • salt as needed
  • 1 pinch turmeric
  • ¾ tbsp RASAM POWDER (adjust to suit your taste)
  • 1 handful coriander leaves chopped
  • subheading: Tempering ingredients:
  • 1 tbsp ghee or oil
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • ½ tsp mustard
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • 1 pinch methi seeds (optional)
  • 1 red chilli broken
  • 1 pinch hing
  • lemon juice from 1 large lemon (adjust as needed)
