Ginger-Garlic Chicken with Green Beans

  • 3 to 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs, trimmed of excess fat and cut into bite-size pieces
  • 2 teaspoons low-sodium soy sauce, or more as needed
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup packed fresh basil leaves, torn if large
  • Fine salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Hot sauce (optional; see headnote)
  • Crushed red pepper flakes (optional; see headnote)
  • Cooked rice or rice noodles, for serving
