Ina's Apple Pie Bars – Easier Than Apple Pie!
Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup lightly packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ⅓ cup finely chopped walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 3 lbs apples or about 4 medium apples (gala, braeburn, golden delicious, pink lady, etc), peeled, cored and cut into ¼ inch slices
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
