Ingredients
- 12 bratwurst sausages
- 1 medium onion chopped
- ½ stick of butter cut into chunks
- 1 teaspoon each of kosher salt, ground black pepper onion powder and garlic powder
- 2 Pilsner style beers
- 1 to 2 Lager style beers
Steps
- Place the brats in a layer in your slow cooker or Instant Pot.
- Peel and chop the onion. Cut the butter into chunks, sprinkle the onion, butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder over the brats.
- Next, pour in the beers. If the sausage is covered, your good to go. If not, then add some more beer.
- Slow cook on high for 2 ½ hours. Remove the brats and sear in butter for about 3 minutes on both sides in a cast iron pan (or cook on the grill).
- Optional: Place back into the beer bath until your ready to serve.
Notes
- I used 3 Keystone Light Beers and the brats were covered and tasted good!
- We scooped out the onions and Jon fried them up in the pan after searing the brats. They were delicious as well!
- We like brats best served in fresh toasted steak rolls. I like to toast my roll with provolone cheese.
- Mashed potatoes & coleslaw are good side dishes.
