Hammons’ Chili

Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound sausage, hot, no nitrites or MSG
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • ¼ cup chili powder
  • 1tablespoon cumin
  • 8 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 6 ounce can tomato paste
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 TEAspoons coconut sugar
  • OR 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • Cayenne to taste
  • Red pepper flakes to taste
Steps
  1. Brown beef over high heat until meat starts to release its juices.
  2. Add sausage and cook until meat is not noticeably pink.
  3. Add onions to pot and cook until soft.
  4. Add garlic, chili powder, and cumin. Cook until fragrant.
  5. Add remaining ingredients.
  6. Simmer for two hours, covered. Or use pressure cooker for 30 minutes. Let pressure release naturally.
