Ingredients
- 2 lb stew meat cut into 1" squares
- 2 tsp salt
- ¼ tsp pepper
- 3 T shortening
- 3 cups hot water
- ⅛ tsp thyme
- 6 small onions, large dice
- 18 oz. carrots, large dice
- 3 pounds potatoes, large dice
- 1 cup frozen peas
Steps
- Melt shortening in large pan and brown meat. When meat is brown on all sides, add water and thyme. Cover pan and bring to a boil, then turn down to simmer for about 1 hour.
- Add vegetables. Turn heat to high until boiling, then reduce heat to simmer for about 30 minutes.
- Stir in frozen peas. Cook about 5 minutes until peas are heated through. Serve at once.
Notes
- optional: ¼ cup all purpose flour before browning
