  • 1 pound (450g) pinto beans picked through, rinsed and dried
  • ½ cup (68g) bacon or ham diced and cooked
  • 4 cups (946ml) chicken broth
  • 2 cups (480ml) water
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ to 1 teaspoon chipotle flakes to taste
  • 2 bay leaves
  • salt to taste
