Artisan Bread from Big Family Homestead

Ingredients
  • 8 cups flour
  • 4 cups very warm water
  • 2 T salt
  • 2 T yeast
Steps
  1. In large bowl or plastic container with lid, mix water, salt & yeast until salt is dissolved. Add flour and combine until there are no powder lumps.
  2. Leave covered on the counter for 2 hours. Be sure one of the lid corners is not latched.  You can bake immediately or put into refrigerator overnight.
  3. Take about a 1 lb piece of dough and roll into a ball using flour to keep from sticking. Place on greased cookie sheet or parchment paper. Let rise for 40 minutes.
  4. OPTIONAL: Top with an egg wash and sesame seeds
  5. Score the top of the dough with a knife 3 times
  6. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Bake for 30 minutes.
